Spin the block.

Think about an exciting season in your life. A time when joy was experienced through the depths of your heart. A period of consistent wins -- Your family is well, health is optimal, and checks are steady flowing. Your social life actually exists, and your relationships are strong. Devoted time towards your spirituality and faith is a focus. Overall personal well-being is balanced. This is success if you ask me. This is what thriving looks like, and it’s a powerful feeling.

I’ve had a few such seasons where I felt I was thriving, maybe not in every area simultaneously. But I came to understand that when I was consistent with certain practices, other aspects of my life improved significantly. For instance, when I'm consistent in the gym I pay more attention to my water and vitamin intake as well as what I eat. I'm more productive throughout the day because I wake up early, listen to motivational messaging, and eat breakfast. Also, when I devote time to exploring my spirituality and deepening my faith, it feels as if the world opens up and answers my needs. Well, most of them.

I'd like to revisit those times. 28 was a good year. I was very consistent with my gym routine and the results were evident. 32, my faith was on fire, leading to radical spiritual and emotional maturity. At 34, I'm the most financially secure I've ever been and I'm trusting God to allow my cup to runneth over so I can continue to help others. The relationships department -- hmmm that needs some attention. I’m seeking more like-minded friends in faith, fitness, and business, and especially in the pursuit of love and marriage. (My journey to the alter is a topic for a separate blog post!)

In this season, I’m drawing from past periods of success, channeling the mindset and motivation I had to help me get things done in present day. I encourage you to do the same. Reflect on your past successes and consider the practices and mindsets that contributed to those thriving moments.

Who says you can't look back when the rearview mirror is filled with goodness? Get that old thing back again. Reconnect with what worked before and use it as a source of inspiration and motivation for today.
